If you all know my story, I got married over Skype (video conferencing) with my hubby! During the time that we got married, we didn’t have a lot financially and we were still both in college. Still, we knew that it was the right time and we were thankful to have each other! I shared the specifics of my story on The Heather Lindsey Show earlier this year. If you would like to check it out, you can view it on YouTube by searching for “Brides on a Budget.”
I am so happy that my husband and I were able to experience that season because it helped us grow to love one another unconditionally. The foundation of our marriage was solely built upon God, not our bank accounts. In the beginning it was discouraging, watching others have their “dream wedding” and not having an experience of my own… but I trusted and believed that God was a God of restoration. He promises in His word that He will give us the desires of our hearts if we delight ourselves in Him (Psalm 37:4). It has been a desire of mine to have a beautiful wedding with friends, family, and a set apart time to celebrate our union. Yet even though we have these “desires”, we must chose to lay them at the Father’s feet and trust in His perfect timing. It simply wasn’t the time and we especially didn’t want to bury ourselves in debt since we were still struggling college students. Now, four years later, God is saying “now is the time” and I am super excited!
We just recently celebrated our four year anniversary on August 1st, 2017 and on that day we went out browsing wedding venues. My husband and I always said that we wanted to wait until our 5-year wedding anniversary, to have the wedding of our dreams! I am so happy to share the we have put a deposit down for our venue and the wedding planning has officially begun! I can’t wait to marry my best friend all over again next year! God is truly faithful and everything is beautiful in His own timing. I’m glad that we didn’t let something like the “perfect wedding” keep us from entering into this beautiful union together. The past 4 years have been amazing, even with our ups and downs, I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
On top of that, during the weekend before our wedding anniversary, I won my wedding dress for completely FREE!! Isn’t God faithful? This was a BRAND NEW wedding dress that I got from the clothing swap at the Pinky Promise conference. When I tried on that dress for the first time, tears streamed down my eyes as I realized that God was sure to be faithful and keep His promises to me. Here is a picture that I took after the clothing swap! I was so overjoyed!
The last thing I’d like to share is that my very best friend, Damaris, just recently got engaged so we get to plan our weddings at the same time! I am so thankful to be able to walk through this journey with her… this makes the experience even more special. We will be each other’s matron of honor. How perfect is that!? I’m so happy for my best friend! I flew all the way down from Florida to surprise her at her engagement party. I remember back in college when we were both single, encouraging one another to be abstinent and wait on God’s timing. Even though I’m already married, I think it’s special that our weddings will be around the same time.
I’m so excited about wedding planning, enjoying, and literally savoring and appreciating every single moment. I am looking forward to all that God has in store and I am thankful to be able to share my testimony of God’s faithfulness to so many witnesses! He will NEVER fail you! He’s so good. Thank you all for coming with me along this beautiful journey.
