5 Types of Demonic Dreams!

January 26, 2017

Hey Everyone,

A lot of you mentioned that you wanted me to blog more about dreams so I thought a good topic to talk about would be the different types demonic dreams to watch out for. I not only want to list these types of dreams, but provide you with different ways you can respond to them. I get attacked in my dreams sometimes. That’s just what happens when you’re living for Jesus. Sometimes we are targeted because the enemy wants to wipe us out, but sometimes it’s simply because we ourselves have allowed seeds of lust, fear, and other things to grow in our hearts.

The first step you should take in avoiding these types of dreams is to #1, live a Godly lifestyle. Be intentional about guarding your heart and pray that God removes any unclean thing from within you. With that being said, let’s get started!

1. Nightmares

Nightmares either expose a fear that we’ve allowed to invade our hearts or they are used as a tactic to implant fear into us. It is important to distinguish warning dreams or prophetic dreams that God may give us  vs. nightmares given to us by demons. I say this because, sometimes God may give us a revelatory dream and it may actually be scary. Though, the reason for that dream is to never implant fear into us, but for the purpose of prophecy or warning.

The bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Though a dream may seem scary at the forefront… look deeper into the purpose of that dream. Does is seem that that dream was sent to scare and paralyze you? Or does it seem that the dream was more revelatory in nature? Inciting you to an action that would bring God glory?

2. Sleep Paralysis

Have you ever had a dream where you were being attacked and you couldn’t move, hardly speak? This is a demonic attack and form of oppression. My first reccomendation is to focus all your energy and mind on Jesus at that point. He is the only one who could save you. He is the one who came to free us from our oppression. Sin does not have a right to hold you down anymore. In those dreams, I try my best to sound out the words “Jesus, Jesus” and repeat it as much as I can until I wake up out of the dream. Yet, if you can’t seem to get the words out, just think it, focus on Jesus, focus on His blood, and that will help.

Sleep paralysis is not just a random phenomenon that takes place at night and it is not something to be ignored. It is saying something deeper about your spiritual state. Oppression is an intruder on the life of a believer.

The bible says in John 8:36 – “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

Therefore, if you are dealing with sleep paralysis, examine your life. In what areas of your life have you allowed the enemy to entangle you in chains that you don’t need to be in? Is it chains of lust? Is it chains of fear? Is it an addiction to food? Is it bondage to the thought and opinions of people? If you can find the root and pinpoint what those chains are, repent of those things and no longer be ruled by that sin. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, you have the authority to overcome and be free, but you must not continue to bow down to that thing. If you can crucify the flesh in real life… you will be more able to crucify the flesh at your most vulnerable point, in your dreams.

Galatians 5:24 – “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

3. Unclean Foods

I am familiar with these types of dreams because one of my besetting sins that I dealt with when I was in the world was gluttony. I used to overeat all the time and just ate anything that would appease my emotions and provide my tastebuds with pleasure in the moment. The spirit of gluttony is also tied to the spirits of slothfulness/laziness, lust, and greed. I would also see the implications of these spirits on my life whenever I would struggle with gluttony. It’s a sin that we often overlook in the christian community but according to the bible, it’s a sin that will send people to hell.

In this dream I am offered different foods. It can be normal looking food like a pizza, a hotdog, etc. But I will feel some sort of conviction (the Holy Spirit) in the dream that I should not eat it… yet sometimes I am overtaken by lust and greed in the dream, so I take a bite.

Listen, this is very serious. That bite you take in that dream just opened the door for an evil seed to be planted inside of you. The enemy uses these dreams as a way to gain access into your life through evil spirits. Than these spirits grow inside of you if you don’t ever address it or cast them out. It’s like falling for the poison.

If you are always  accepting unclean foods in your dreams, you are dealing with some sort of lustful spirit. Pray that the Lord open your eyes and reveal to you exactly what it is you’re struggling with. Whether that be covetousness, gluttony, perversion, etc.

I recommend doing  a fast and growing in discipline. Some practical steps can be changing your diet, working out more, spending more time in prayer and reading God’s word. Discipline is needed in this spiritual walk! Both natural and spiritual discipline are important and are connected. If not, the enemy will have a field day in your life!

1 Corinthians 9: 24 – 27 “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”

4. Lustful/Sex Dreams

Having lustful dreams can be an indication that you haven’t been guarding your heart. It can also mean that you’ve been around someone else with a lustful spirit or a homosexual spirit that’s rubbing off on you. What have you been watching? What have you been listening to? Where have you been going?

These types of dreams can be very graphic and if you haven’t been in your prayer closet, you will be very susceptible to taking part in the sexual actions within your dream. Sometimes, you can even feel sexual sensations in your physical body as these dreams are taking place and to many, it seems very real. Lustful spirits birth other lustful spirits so if you don’t get to the root of the problem and cut it, you will continue to get tempted and attacked by these lustful spirits. The more you are passive and continually feed the flame, the more it will grow. You pretty much have to be aggressive with combating these types of dreams and closing any open doors of lust you’ve allowed to invade your life.

1 Corinthians 10:13 – “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

5. Lucid Dreaming

Lucid dreaming is when you are in a dream and you are aware that you are dreaming. Because of this, the dreamer is able to exert “power” over the characters in the dream and what is actually taking place. Be very, very careful of this as it can stem from a spirit of witchcraft. The enemy likes to entice people to serve him by promising them “power” and “control” over their lives and the lives of others. All he is really doing is trying to put them in bondage. Why should a Christian become obsessed or infatuated with lucid dreaming when it adds no value to the actual life of a believer? Many New Agers or Occult practicers enjoy lucid dreaming and we are called to be set apart from them as believers.

The bible says in Deuteronomy 18:10-12 that: There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you.

There is no example in the bible of God giving someone a lucid dream. I am not saying that you are going to hell for having a lucid dream. But if you enjoy this, ask yourself “why?” I am challenging you to examine the root of your dreams and see how they are bringing glory to God.

“While many things are permissible for Christians, not all things are beneficial.” (1 Corinthians 6:12)

Anyway, I hope you all found this helpful! Hopeful this will help you grow in your spiritual walk as you continue on in your journey. ‘Till next time! – Karolyne
